this classic gift shared by Siona Van Dijk
* 2 cleaned-out metal coffee cans, both with lids (one should be able to fit inside the other)
* 1 cup of very cold milk or half & half
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 tsp vanilla
* ice
* (rock) salt
- Pour the milk, sugar, and vanilla into the smaller coffee can (make sure it's clean) and seal with the lid on tightly. Tape it up if you're worried.
- Put this smaller can inside the larger one. Then pour the ice and salt around the smaller can making sure it is more or less in the center.
- Seal up the larger can (again, tape is a good idea) and roll it around for about a half hour. I've always kicked it gently about the backyard, but you can just as easily roll it back and forth between you on the floor; if poor Makiah isn't feeling great this is likely best.
Voila. The best, freshest, and most tasty (it's made with love and attention and fun) ice cream you'll find. (You can add a beaten egg to the mixture, too, or adjust the half-n-half / sugar ratio--I like it less sweet--but part of the fun is experimenting).

I remember standing in the ben and jerry’s ice cream cemetery, up on the hill next to the stowe vermont factory…thinking ‘dead ice cream, ugh!” Well, i love the concept of the “Siona’s Seductive Surprise” ice cream experience…where WE all become master ice cream connoisseurs….the blog, the community, the international conventions, the speaking deals, the feeding the world experience of kicking it till the big O happens…i think the surprise foundation would invest in the start up for this wonderful ice cream experience…more coffee will have to be drunk, everyone will get more excerise, (a work out video, of coarse) more cow herds will need to be cared for, …i think it will be the ONE THING that turns the entire world economy around….kicking around the cream, till the perfect passion of taste emerges.

This was the best answer I could have ever imagined… and oh, Robert, I love the idea of ice cream (metaphorical or real) that everyone participates in the making of, and of which the creation of is itself a fabulous and playful game. I hope your batch soothed dear M’s healing. :)
Matthew is still camped out on his new inflatable bed, in front of his new hd sony television…suffering through the days and nights…( i don’t think he wants to get better, WHY go back to school when your flunking out) Makiah is perfect, he found his “cards” that were made for him when he was born….by beth miller..among ALL the huge piles surrounding me was a picture of her and the dali lama …He didn’t know who the dali lama IS..but thought the concept of her making him cards when he was born “very cool’…so cool, he got up EARLY to take some cards to school…ps…while kicking around the coffee cans, thinking ‘strengthfinder.com’ and “passiontestonline.com” can be new assignments for Matt as he heals….(huge, mean looking tonsils)
so, my favorite ben and jerry’s product was “peace pops” with money going to PEACE…thinking Sonia’s Seductive Surprise…has inspired me to start all things Peace City…have emailed my first citizen, the courage for peace author…maybe the peace acitivity will be “kicking the cans” ….ever since “throwing the shoe” peacefull expression, I’m seeing all the possiblities of ‘swords into plowshares’ ….bullents, bombs, nuclear weapons, terrorism…shoes and loverists…the transition has arrived…
